TLCA Youth is an integral part of the Telugu Language and Cultural Association (TLCA), committed to fostering cultural values while giving back to the community. Formed with the mission to promote cultural heritage and provide meaningful service, TLCA Youth has been a cornerstone of charitable and community-driven initiatives. Through a variety of events held throughout the year, the youth group has made significant contributions to disaster relief, philanthropic organizations, and cultural preservation.
Keeping Culture Alive Through the Arts
Cultural participation is at the heart of TLCA Youth. Each year, youth members actively contribute to cultural events by performing traditional dances, singing, emceeing, and showcasing their various talents. These performances not only celebrate Telugu culture but also encourage the next generation to embrace and continue the rich traditions of their heritage. TLCA Youth members work together to put on amazing performances at TLCA’s cultural festivals, making these events a highlight of the community’s year.
Creating an Impact Through Charity
Beyond their artistic involvement, one of the hallmark achievements of TLCA Youth has been its charity showcases, particularly the Sapna (2014) and Asha (2019) events, which raised over $25,000 for the education of underprivileged children in India. In addition to these fundraising efforts, TLCA Youth actively engages with the local community. The group has hosted free medical camps and has been an essential participant in the annual New York City AIDS Walk, showing their dedication to both local and global causes.
Responding to Crisis with Action
The year 2020 marked a pivotal moment for TLCA Youth as its members stepped up in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Youth club members contributed significantly by making and distributing face shields and masks, as well as delivering food boxes and groceries to communities in Queens, the Bronx, and Long Island. These efforts provided vital support to not only the Telugu community but also to other local groups in need.
Empowering the Next Generation Through Education
Beyond charity work, TLCA Youth is passionate about helping younger students achieve their professional goals. The annual education seminar has become a key event where high school students are guided through standardized test preparation, exploring relevant extracurriculars, and developing their college lists. Additionally, youth mentors have taken an active role in editing personal statements for college and medical school applicants, helping shape the futures of many aspiring students. The club has also addressed academic pathways in fields such as medicine, law, and engineering, and has organized Telugu Bees for elementary and middle school students, allowing them to connect with their heritage in a fun and educational way.

TLCA Youth also plays an important role in organizing sports competitions, and promoting artistic and literary endeavors for TLCA’s annual magazine. Whether it’s in the arts, sports, writing, or public speaking, TLCA Youth embraces members with diverse interests, fostering an environment where creativity and passion are celebrated. The group works tirelessly to engage with the community on multiple levels, ensuring that Telugu culture remains vibrant and relevant to all generations.
